HEMU Jazz Orchestra

The HEMU Jazz Orchestra is a real accelerator of experience, offering young musicians the opportunity to enter the professional music scene and perform with alongside established artists.

Consisting of Master's degree students in Music performance at the HEMU – Haute École de Musique, the ensemble represents the next generation of the jazz scene. The orchestra covers a wide repertoire, and each project enable these young talents to work under the artistic direction of one or more internationally renowned musicians, guest artists, or HEMU teachers, before performing alongside them. In recent years, the HEMU Jazz Orchestra has welcomed renowned artists such as Dave Liebman, Uri Caine, Richard Galliano, Nik Bärtsch, Eleonara Strino, Marilyn Mazur and Bojan Z.

Thanks to its wide network of partners, including the Cully Jazz Festival, the JazzOnze+ Festival and the Nova Jazz Festival, the HEMU Jazz Orchestra performs several times a year at prestigious venues. The orchestra consists of three to five permanent musicians, who are joined by other students from the HEMU's jazz and classical music departments, depending on the project.
