This valorisation project aims to consolidate, disseminate, and expand the findings of InstrAct, a completed artistic research project that examined instrumental affordances of the viola and viola d’amore within the creative process of musicking.
Building on InstrAct academic, methodological, artistic, and documentation outcomes, this valorisation phase consolidates and disseminate the project’s results through a coordinated programme of publications, academic lectures, public concerts, residency activity, and advanced documentation work. Academic dissemination will take place through lectures and workshops in Switzerland and the United Kingdom, presenting the methodological framework and ecological perspective developed in the project. Artistic outlets for dissemination will includes concerts in London and Leeds, an artistic residency at MIAM Fribourg that will result in a series of public events in the Fribourg area, as well as the professional release of the collaborative work with Scott McLaughlin on Kairos.
A dedicated documentation session at EMPAC (USA) will further develop multi-camera and multi-microphone strategies for the transmission of newly developed instrumental techniques, in view of a forthcoming book publication on extended techniques. During this residency ad EMPAC, while further producing valuable material related to InstrAct, this valorisation project is also expanding on InstrAct finding, launching an academic conversation with musician Andrew Greenwald and documentarist Brad Heck on the value, purpose, and technical possibilities of documentation as an artistic and pedagogical tool.
